Dear Jeannette,
You demonstrated your leadership during this difficult time — you immediately communicated with the OCA board and all members, you insured us that the procedure was correct and fair, and the accusation had no base; you also immediately showed support to Elizabeth which we really appreciate.
Now I’m thinking about what OCA can do to prevent such evil things from happening again? Can we improve our procedure so that it leaves no room for such accusations? If unfortunately such evil thing happens, what should we OCA do to minimize the level of damage and stop it from becoming worse?
As I wrote on my first response (10/24/08) to the original attacking email (10/23/08): "I’d like to suggest that from this year on, all applicants’ qualifications should be made known to the entire OCA board, or even all OCA members — so that everything is clear and transparent, without room for those accusations."
Here, I strongly suggest again that from this year on (or hopefully back to last year or even previous years) the achievements of all award recipients (or even all applicants) should be made known to the community for the purposes:
1. show the community examples of role models and their achievements
2. clear suspicions on whether or not a recipient deserves the award - a recipient may have achievements others don't know about (and are thus falsely under the impression (s)he is not qualified)
Only if the community recognizes that the award recipients are true role models — our future leaders, then the award is really meaningful and we will have more and more well-qualified applicants in the future. If you agree, I volunteer to take this job (making the achievements known to the community).
The gala is coming up. Let's wish OCA gala another successful event, though we will be unable to attend (on the same day Elizabeth has another event which now takes priority, and my husband and I must, of course, drive and accompany her). Have a great time to all.
Regards,
Li

Dear Pan Li,
This is Jiali, Li Zhiyong’s wife.
I was so grossed by this email scandal since last Friday. I am especially
outraged that you and your daughter were attacked brutally and that Zhiyong’s
landmark character, as being honest, direct, and open, was utilized by some
ruthless people to commit such a serious crime.
It is shocking and embarrassing that in our Westchester Chinese Community,
there were actually such kind of infamous imposter(s), using such a degraded
manner, plotted and executed such an evil conspiracy. This email not only
violated yours and my families, but also seriously damaged the reputation of OCA
and HXNY. It is a humiliation and disgrace to all the overseas Chinese people.
Such conduct should not be tolerated by OCA, HXNY, and the whole Chinese
Community.
Time will answer the questions of WHO, WHY, and HOW along the way. I am sure
there will be consequences associated with his/her/their evil conduct. Like the
old Chinese wisdom saying:
Have a good day and enjoy your wonderful and outstanding daughter.
sincerely,
Jiali

November 14, 2008
Dear OCA Board,
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere apology for se nding the email subject ‘Disappointed at OCA’ to the OCA members.
It was not my intention to accuse or hurt people, but express my dissatisfaction to the award selection process. As matter of fact, I was wrong sending a complaint based on rumors, not facts. Even though I did not mean to hurt people, I realized that my expression deviates from my purpose, and indeed hurt many innocent people. I am deeply disturbed by the fact. I profoundly regretted that I hurt many people and the reputation of OCA as the result of my miscommunication.
I have to say that I was under the influence of substance, too emotional, not rational when I put up such an email. The worst is that I used an innocent person’s name to create an anonymous email address to hide my identity, and on top of that, the example I used in the email hurt a kid. I was disturbed and felt extremely guilty to hear that many innocent people were accused of writing this email and decide to push myself forward to write this=2 0apology letter.
I want to send my sincere apology to all of you who are hurt by the email and to OCA for the false accusation. Please convey my apology especially to the kid and his/her family, ZhiYong Li and his/her family. Hopefully you could accept my apology and move on, work together to make OCA a better organization for everyone to be proud of in the Westchester community.
Please allow me to continue to be anonymous as I don’t have the courage to face my family, friends and all of you at OCA. I can only hope god will forgive me in the far future.
Sincerely,
Anonymous OCA member who wrote the email subject ‘Disappointed at OCA’

Dear Members of OCA and HuaXia Chinese School of New York ,
I am sorry to know the email scandal occurred last Thursday. HuaXia Chinese School got involved unexpectedly because there are rumors that this was done by a HXNY parent. HXNY strongly condemn such conduct, no matter it is done by HXNY parent or not.
This year, three students were recommended by HXNY for the OCA Student Leadership Award. They are all honored students of HXNY with great credentials and have made contributions to HXNY and local community in many different ways. They are the proud of HXNY! There are also other HXNY students who applied for this award through their local schools. I am sure that they all have their shinning aspects and are outstanding in each of their own local schools.
I can not believe somebody, in wig and mask, attacked our innocent students. This conduct intentionally violated the basic norms of moral standard, seriously damaged the reputation of OCA and HXNY. It is a disgrace! Such conduct is definitely not tolerated by our school.
HXNY believes that a fair, collaborative, unite and harmonious community will benefit all members of HXNY and the whole Chinese Community. We can not let a small piece of mouse droppings ruin the whole pot of soup. Meanwhile, we would not ignore the negative impact the mouse droppings brings to our community.
HXNY would always follow its mission, as a school and as a community.
Sue Huang
Principal of HXNY

Dear OCA & HXNY Community,
I am just replying an email sent to me. I hope my email
will reach all intended audience, which is all members of our Chinese
community in Westchester.
Just to let you know that I also BCCed to my close friends as well. This
is just for entertaining purpose. Also, for those who wish to contact me
by phone - 907-581-3956 (h) or 907-581-1202 (o).
As i promised I would write more -
I wish I can simply say that I truly don't care who got the award. It is
also pointless to explain that I didn't even know what the award was. To
analyze the situation I would approach this matter from two different
perspectives - on a personal level as well as on the level of our community.
On the Personal Level: It apparently affected many people - the
perpetrator (the person behind this - let's call him/her X now), the
'victim' - Elizabeth, persons who received the information directly
through the email or indirectly heard from someone else, and myself of
course. X committed this act clearly due to his/her dislike of me. He or
she may be very jealous or even angry about Elizabeth getting the award.
One stone kills two birds as they say. Interestingly enough X actually
learned a thing or two about me. He or she knows me well but not well
enough. People can be described as a very much hardheaded and from time
to time fiercely stubborn, and quick to anger. I have never learned to
flatter. That is all X knew and that would be all he was able to know
due to his/her mental incapacity. However, X's degraded language that
Elizabeth properly categorized even fooled some of you out there. No
surprise to me, some of you probably know me no more than X. Many people
I come in contact with especially my dear friends could attest that I am
a good man with a great heart. I have a passion at my heart for
fairness, truth, and integrity which I cannot smother or conceal. I may
be fiercely stubborn but with courage and humor; I am hardheaded but
with a lot of sensibility. X can never be able to catch the very essence
of what it means of being truthful, honest, and fair. That's why the
language of X is degraded, his/her mind is evasive and slippery, the
blood is cold and venomous, and the heart if X has one is desolated.
Isn't it amusing and entertaining? Whatever X's motive meant to be, the
end result is that Elizabeth successfully defended her honor. X wasn't
able to tarnish anyone's reputation but his or her own. I cannot imagine
if X can even face his/her own children. He belittled nobody else but
Xself. X is fainthearted and spineless and nothing but a coward.
(to be continued)

ReplyDeleteOn the level of our Chinese Community: I do think this is a serious
matter. Envy is no stranger to all of us. X's behavior isn't an isolated
act. The adults are 'hopeless' for lack of a better word. Many people
like X practice Chairman Mao's philosophy and tactics of warfare in
dealing with human relationships. It is dreadful when the envious
behavior carried out so recklessly to the extent that hurtful to our
children. It worries me the most when the innocence of a young heart
gets tainted and the purity of a young mind gets polluted because the
adults' inability to curb their devious behavior. When I was in HXNY, I
saw everyday each and every parent was doing everything possible to
provide his/her children the best. When someone likes X ruthlessly try
to scar the fresh memories of not only Elizabeth but all the rest of our
children, the community should be outraged. It is our responsibility to
ensure our next generation to behave better.
Thanks
Zhiyong Li

Hello Everyone,
While I am no longer an active Board member, I am writing to support all of you at this difficult time. Now that it has been ascertained that this is a hoax, I think it may be a good time to send out an email clarifying things. It appears that the award recipient
mentioned received the Student award and not the Dynamic Achievers Award. There should be some clarification on this since we're so close
to the date of our award gala.
If the criteria for the Student awards is already on the website or written down somewhere, this may be a good time to make sure everyone is aware of how the selection is generally made. No specifics regarding any individual should be given out.
It may also be appropriate for Legal Counsel to vet any emails on this issue to the active membership to ensure that everything going out is correct.
I am so proud of all of OCA WHV's achievements under the direction of its Officers and Board. I have full faith in all of you and feel fortunate that I am still a part of the organization.
Let's put all of this in perspective. OCA did nothing wrong and someone or some group has a hidden agenda to damage OCA'a reputation.
In time, the identity of the perpetrators and their motives will become evident. I agree with Pablo's observation that it may be due to the attention that the Gala now receives.
Keep the faith.
Jean Chang.

Dear Team:
I just talked to Zhiyong Li in Alaska. It is 7:00 AM their and he was travelling from Denver to Alaska last night. He did not send that email, and that email address(zhiyong1...@hotmail.com
<mailto:zhiyong1...@hotmail.com ) is even not his email. I copied him on this email so any of you can directly contact him.
Zhiyong is an OCA member and he joined OCA at the same time as me. He also volunteered a lot in our community (HXNY PTA chair and board
member). He relocated to Alaska six months ago for current job.
Obviously, someone stolen his name and created an email account to sent out the email to all OCA members. I have to admit that this person did pretty good job, since this person knows that Zhiyong is an OCA member and he/she mimicked Zhiyong's writing style.
It is interesting that the two close friends of Zhiyong, Joan Jia and I, did not receive the original email. We only learned this
after Li Pan sent the email to board member.
Li, please let your daughter know that Zhiyong did not do this to her.
Can we figure out the real person behind this?
Thanks.
Xin

ReplyDelete1.把汪校进入董事会改成了贺立大进董事会;
